Star Trek Beyond (2016) Trailer
After docking at Starbase Yorktown, the USS Enterprise, halfway into their five-year mission, ventures into new dangerous uncharted territory. There, the Enterprise is destroyed by a new ruthless enemy with a deep hatred of the Federation, and strands Kirk and his crew on a remote planet with no means of communication. Kirk must then work with the elements to reunite his crew and get back to save Starbase Yorktown from this dangerous menace.
The movie takes place inside a nebula, and we are indeed shown a nebula: a huge gas cloud. The characters even refer to the density of gas as they move through it. It also has some rocks and debris in it, but Star Trek nebulae often have rocks and debris in them. (Of course in real life, nebulae and asteroid fields would be indistinguishable from vacuum as far as a tiny starship is concerned.)
What we got was Fast and Furious in space. Just running, fighting, explosions, one frantic scene after another with no time to develop characters, motivations, or even plausible Sci-Fi. It feels shallow, a promising plot sacrificed to the alter of YA expectations.
Another Star Trek movie where the enterprise is destroyed, again? Is this sci-fi disaster porn now?
The dialogue is forced, the banter off tempo, and in the end, the actors talents and IP were wasted on what feels like a B movie.Box Office, Uncategorized actionadventuresci-fithriller
